德克萨斯南方大学位于美国第四大城市德克萨斯州休斯敦市中心，即历史上著名的休斯顿第三行政区，交通十分便利。德克萨斯南方大学拥有全美国最多元化的教师队伍和最先进的教学设施，有9500多名学生和近1500名教职工，开设了从本科直到博士层次的专业与课程，九个学院中大多开设了本地区独一无二的专业，部分学院还因为成绩突出而得到国家级荣誉。包括本地区唯一授予城市规划学位的专业;其航空科学专业拥有全美仅有的两个飞行模拟器之一;法学院被“美国新闻与世界报道” 评为全美国最多样化的法学院;医药和健康科学学院在历史上培养超过了27%的非洲裔美国药剂师;休斯敦大部分非洲裔美国教师和律师均为德克萨斯南方大学毕业生。科学与技术学院从事生物纳米技术与环境研究(C-BER)的NASA研究中心致力于解决与载人空间探索相关的人类健康问题。
